MANIFOLD'S LUTE
Music, Poetry & Reflections
  The Australian Cultural Library's
  John Manifold Fellowship
Featuring DOUG EATON & GARRY TOOTH
As well as being the driving force behind the Brisbane Realist Writers in the 1950's,
Australian poet John Streeter Manifold was at the centre of
the early days of the Folk Music scene in Brisbane .
  Manifold's hand-made lute-backed guitar, which he had
given to the poet Judith Rodriguez,
was donated to the Australian Cultural Library in 2022.
Following the donation of the lute to the Library by the Rodriguez family, the
Australian Cultural Library awarded the inaugural John Manifold Fellowship
to folk musicians Penny Davies & Roger Ilott.
Davies & Ilott produced a podcast featuring the work of Manifold and Rodriguez,
as well as many others involved in the Brisbane Realist Writers in the 1950's.
The podcast includes interviews with Garry Tooth ( Moreton Bay Buxhwhackers)
and Doug Eaton (The Bandicoots), both of whom were involved in
the Folk Revival in Queensland at that time..
The podcast tells the story of the influence John Manifold had upon the development of
Folk Culture in Brisbane , and features music and poetry written
and played during that exciting period in Brisbane .
